Six of the Wonders of Africa

With a warm climate and vast and varied landscape, it makes Africa a trip of a lifetime place to visit. There really are some amazing sights to see and stunning things to do. But with such a varied landscape and an array of countries in Africa to choose from, where do you choose to visit if you’re planning a trip? Here are some of the top sights to see in Africa; have you been to any before? If not, now you know what to add to your list.

Great Migration in Tanzania
Once a year, over two million wildebeest and several thousand zebras, migrate from the Ngorongoro Reserve in Tanzania, up through the Serengeti, before heading to Kenya. This starts from January, ending up with them in Kenya around September before they journey south again. A photo can’t really do an event like this justice!

Victoria Falls, Zambia
Often described as one of the seven wonders of the world, Victoria Falls is a must for the bucket list. It is found along the Zambezi River at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. So the location couldn’t be more stunning. It isn’t classed as the widest waterfall in the world or the tallest. However, it is classed as the largest because of its combined height and width. So it really is a sight to behold.

Table Mountain, South Africa
Cape Town is home to Table Mountain, or Table Mountain is home to Cape Town, whichever way you want to look at it. The city itself is one of the best beach cities in the world, and with the looming mountain in the background, you can also see why it is one of the most photogenic cities in the world too. You can take a cable car to the top for the view; made even better at sunset or at sunrise.

Sahara Dunes, Morocco
You can get to the Sahara from the northern part of Morocco, and it by far the most user-friendly part of the desert. You could camp out, follow a guided trek, or just head out for the evening to star gaze. It is one of the most secluded places on the planet, completely free of any unnatural light. So it is a sight to behold.

Giza Pyramids, Egypt
I don’t think you can think of Egypt without thinking about the pyramids, the most famous of which are located near Cairo, in Giza. Recorded to have been built in the year 2650 BC, they really are a wonder of the world! They are architecturally sound, with their sides facing exactly north, south, east, and west. Organized tours are usually the best way to go, as they are set out in the desert. They are an African must, though.

Safari, Kenya
Kenya is somewhere that is normally considered if you want to escape on a safari. But the Masai Mara National Park is one of the best places to experience a safari, and all that Africa has to offer in terms of nature and wildlife.

    Hi Emily,

Thanks for writing! I agree that the Saharan desert would be an absolutely incredible place to see the stars. I’ll be adding that one to my bucket list.
