UPDATE FROM NANJING CHINA

Mood [Okay]
Currently Playing [None]

Hi from Nanjing China! Sorry for the lack of updates for the past few days! It's been quite the journey from Hong Kong to Nanjing. If you follow me on twitter, you'll know that I had left Hong Kong last Friday and arrived in Nanjing in the afternoon. Let me warn you in advance that this is going to be a rather long entry. I'll be blogging not only for you, my readers but also for the internship (since it's required that we keep a blog of our experience) and for my family who follows this blog as well. This is the easiest day that I can keep in touch with everyone from all parts of the world!

So let me continue, my roommate, Thalia, didn't arrive until the next day so I had a day by myself. Luckily, one of the local teacher was able to take my around to help me settle in and to take me out for dinner. Otherwise, I would not have known where to go or where to eat. I bought most of the necessities that is needed for the apartment, but the place is no home yet. To be honest, it had been quite lonely for the first day. I had to call JL from China so many times just so I wouldn't have to feel alone. Haha! It's quite different to be in a city where you don't know anyone nor do you really speak the language fluently.

Once Thalia arrived, we were able to do a little exploring of the city. We didn't go far from our apartment because we wanted to be safe and made sure that we knew how to get back. We bought a lot of products to clean our apartment together and now the apartment is starting to feel more like a home. We scrubbed the toilet, washed the bathtub, changed the shower curtains, emptied out the fridge and even mopped the floor. Spring cleaning came a little late for use in China. Haha!

Thanks to another foreigner that we randomly bumped into on the street, he told us of a night market just around the area where we can get cheap clothes and other household products. The clothes were really affordable, even cheaper than Hong Kong and the style is pretty similar as well. Thalia got amazing Toms for only ¥50 RMB (appox. $7 CAD) but of course we questioned its authenticity but for that price she couldn't pass it up. They looked so real though even if the boxes and the leather insoles. And we discovered a little boutique that sells OPI nail polishes for only ¥39 RMB (around $6 CAD)and they even had the shattered one for only ¥49 RMB (around $7 CAD)! Those I'm pretty sure are authentic!:D

Sorry I won't be able to update photos until I get Internet at home, which we are hoping will be either set up on Tuesday. I'm right now trying to blog through email posting and I haven't been able to edit all the photos that I have taken so far. I will continue to do reviews and outfit posts, but like I said, have to wait until I can use my laptop and Internet at home because all my photos and programs are on there. (I still have photos to update from Hong Kong!) Plus, still can't access Facebook or Twitter or Blogger, I'm getting very desperate. If anyone knows how I can go about buying a VPN in China (I didn't buy one when I was in Hong Kong), please email me: day—dreaming@hotmail.com THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth. Patent Pending.

WHY I LOVE THIS PRODUCT
I've been trying to get my hands on these lip balms ever since they first came out in the States! But they still have not fully arrived in Canada yet. There were some Shoppers that carried them and I know that RW & Co had them for a while, but the prices were around $7-$8CAD for one! Which is like almost double the original price! Once again, this gives me another reason to hate how slow products arrive to Canada.

With that being said, you can probably imagine my thrill when I saw these products in Hong Kong! And they were only $36 HKD, which is around $4 CAD! So do these lip balms deserve all the hype? YES! After discovering this product, I've completely stopped using my previous Rosebud lip balm! Eos, is short for “Evolution of Smooth”. All eos lip balms are certified USDA organic, and made with 95% certified organic ingredients. Besides being mostly organic, they are 100% natural. And who can forget the adorable recyclable packaging! These balms are brightly colored and packaged with a sturdy “soft touch” plastic for a unique feel. I know some people complain about them being too hard to carry around, but honestly, I just think that the little sphere shape is just TOO CUTE! I don't carry the lip balm in my makeup bag, but I just slip it inside my purse.

It really does make my lip really smooth and unlike the Rosebud lip balm, it doesn't leave my lips feeling oily. My lips are left extra soft and no more flaking lips for me! After using the Sweet Mint one, I went back and bought 2 other ones, Summer Fruit and Honeysuckle Honeydew. I feel the need to stock up on these before I leave Hong Kong because they will be a lot harder to find when I'm in Canada! The smell of these lip balms are not extremely overwhelming, which I really enjoy. With the all natural ingredients and its organic certification, not to mention the small price tag and cute packaging, you really can’t go wrong with eos Lip Balms!

RATING
Product (5/5)
Cost (4/5) - It's only affordable if it's not purchased in Canada! =(
Ease of Use (5/5) - Love the sphere shape, you can pucker up to put on the lip balm
Packaging (5/5) - Love love love the shape! SO CUTE!

ON THE PEAK

Mood [Rushed]
Currently Playing [None]

From Hong Kong top & bow sandals, H&M skirt, Log-on floral backpack

One of my favourite places in the world is without a doubt the Peak in Hong Kong. The view on the top is just stunning and it's one of the most popular attraction in Hong Kong. Not only does it overlook the beautiful city of Hong Kong, but it also has great shopping and dining as well. The Sky Terrace, standing at 428 metres above sea level, is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong offering a stunning 360-degree panoramic view across the Hong Kong. Even though it cost $30 HKD to go up to the tower, but it's worth every penny! Whether you visit The Peak in the morning, afternoon or nighttime, The Sky Terrace is a scenic spot that you could not miss!

There are many different ways that you can get to The Peak. Riding The Peak Tram is the quickest and most scenic way to arrive at The Peak. The Peak Tram Lower Terminus is easily reachable by foot from the MTR in Central or by public transportation. Another way to get up is by bus. One route that I would recommend is taking the No 15 bus from Admiralty MTR station. It's only a 15-20 minutes ride from there. Of course, there's always the taxi option as well. Taxis are plentiful throughout Hong Kong apart from remote areas, and can be hailed on the street(except restricted areas) or summoned by phone. All are metered, relatively cheap, air-conditioned and clean.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE

H&M leather jacket, Forever 21 denim shorts & lace shorts, from Hong Kong cut-out top & chaing necklace, Bluenotes shoes, Betsey Johnson purse

Sorry I never got around to writing my thoughts this morning, I was in a rush to head out for dim sum with my family here in Hong Kong. These photos were taking in Central, near IFC mall last week after a feast of a dinner with some of my extended family. We ate so much that JL and I felt the need to walk it off after the meal! So while we were walking, we decided to take these photos :D Hong Kong actually hasn't been that hot since I've arrived. It's even pretty cool at night that I would need to wear a light jacket to go out.

I'm still having the hardest time believing that May is slowly coming to an end. I can't believe that I'll be heading off to Nanjing, China in less than 6 days! It still scares and excites me at the same time. There are still tons of stuff that I have to do in Hong Kong before I leave, so it's going to be a crazy last few days. I hope I'll have enough time to update this blog and to post at least 2 more videos before my 3 months departure to Nanjing. Luckily, a reader told me about blogging through email, so at least I know that I'll be able to update this blog even if I can't access blogspot in China. If anyone knows any proxy that can be used in China to get through their firewall, please share them with me :D I really want to be able to use Youtube and Facebook while I'm in China!

[REVIEW] - MAC MINERALIZE EYE SHADOW DUO IN SEA & SKY

Mood [Excited]
Currently Playing [Fish Leong - 屬於]

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Two coordinating shades baked together in a single pan. A superb way to experience Mineralize's unique properties: exceptionally sheer and lightweight application, and easy, rich colour. Finishes include super-fine pearl that leave a soft dimensional shimmer on the skin.

Bright blue mono/Silvery pale blue with deep blue and silver veining (Frost)

FOR BEST RESULT
Use a primer before applying this eyeshadow in order to make the colours even more vivid and more long lasting!

INGREDIENTS
(unavailable)

WHY I LOVE THIS PRODUCT
This duo shade is ideal for anyone who loves blue! It's so beautiful! The dark shadow is a monogram blue colour and a silvery pale blue blend with a deep blue and some silber lining. The second colour is more of a frosted colour and it's perfect to contrast with the bright blue colour. With them together, they make a perfect combination! You don't need any other colours, just this duo is very sufficient.

Like all the other MAC shadows, the pot holds two colours and it's very compact and small. It is very handy for travelling because you get two colours instead of just one in a pot. My favourite colour out of the two has to be the bright blue monogram! It is very intense and the texture is very rich! It's really good for the outer v of your eyes to make your eyes appear larger. The other shade is much more subtle and more neutral. The blue and silvery frost shade contrasts perfectly with the beight dark blue colour. They really do make a nice combination together. The silvery blue can definitely be used as a highlighter.

I found them to be medium long-lasting and they won’t really fade easily when untouched. The darker shade can be more long-lasting than the lighter shade. This is why I would still suggest to use a primer prior to applying this shadow. This shade is perfect for teens and adults, and it’s colours never go out of style. If you don't want to pay $20 for this duo, a really good dupe is the Maybelline Eyestudio Quad in Sapphire Siren. Unfortunitely, I don't have the Maybelline quad with me in Hong Kong, so I can't do a comparison. But the two blues in these shadows are quite similar.

RATING
Product (5/5) - Highly pigmented and the colours are beautiful!
Cost (3/5) - I always find MAC cosmetics to be pricey.
Ease of Use (5/5)
Packaging (5/5) - Very chic!

(Read until the end of this post for an exclusive offer for THISWASFOREVER readers!) Artie debuted last month in March of 2011 and their products include cosmetics, skin care products, hair care products and accesories which are mainly imported from Japan. Considering that the store is only one month old, they have very reasonable prices and a huge variety of items. They are a store located in the U.S. and they have a bilingual (Chinese and English) interface that provides detailed products' information and directions, which makes it easier for customers to learn more about their products.

It's a great thing that they now ship WORLDWIDE with flat shipping rates! With these low flat shipping rates, you can feel comfortable to shop at Artie for your Asian beauty and cosmetic favourites! :D

[REVIEW] - HARD CANDY SHEER ENVY PRIMER

Mood [Scared]
Currently Playing [None]

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Sheer Envy Primer helps to even out the skin while reducing shine. Improves foundation application while minimizing skin imperfections. Make-up lasts longer and skin is left velvety smooth. A lightweight formula that enhances the skin's texture and primes the skin for makeup application.

1.6 oz or 45g and can be purchased at Wal-mart for $8 CAD.

FOR BEST RESULT
Apply a small amount for an even layer all over your face to create a skin-smoothing finish. Once dry, follow with foundation.

INGREDIENTS
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicon Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Mica, Titanium Dioxide

WHY YOU SHOULD SKIP THIS PRODUCT
I had really hoped that I would love this product because I had wanted to try a new face primer, but I was truly disappointed. This primer is a silicone based primer and it contains a lot of the same ingredients as ELF Minteral Face Primer, Smashbox Photo Finish, and so on. The texture is almost like a mousse texture and when applied onto my skin, it left my skin feeling very oily rather than a matte finish. (You can see from the picture that it's really shiny). I'm not sure if it's the tube than I bought, but it was extremely oily and wet, which made my skin even more oily than usual. So it definitely did not control my oil at all and I was not impressed by this.

The worst part is when the product started to separate. I had noticed that this happened to a few other people as well, so it's not just the bottle that I bought. Once the product separates, it becomes even more "wet" than before. The tube that I have now is very liquidy and no matter now much I tried to shake it, it will not return to its original "mousse" state. Another really gross thing about this primer is that even when it's just sitting on my table, the cap gets very oily. This suggests that the bottle is leaking or the product is just somehow seeping through. It's actually really gross! Furthermore, my foundation did not last any longer with this product than without it. So it did not fulfill its expectations.

I guess the two positive notes about this product is that 1) it is in a very convenient squeeze tube and 2) the price is really affordable. Other than that, I don't see this product working well for me. Even though it's affordable, it's not a good face primer at all!

RATING
Product (0/5)
Cost (5/5)
Ease of Use (4/5) - I do like the squeeze tube bottle
Packaging (4/5) - I've always liked the packaging from Hard Candy

ITS BEAUTY IS SURREAL

Showroom dress, Lippy La Soup oversized leather clutch, random from Hong Kong plastic bow sandals, Casio watch

Hands down my two favourite purchases from Hong Kong thus far: this Showroom sailor-vintage-looking-polka-dot dress and this amazing handmade oversized envelope clutch. (It's actually suppose to be a laptop bag, but no one has to know). It's a good thing that I didn't purchase the one from American Apparel because not only do I like this one more, but it's also only a fraction of the price. Thanks to my amazing aunt (who is the most stylish person I know, no jokes!), she took me to a few new places to shop in Tsim Sha Tsui (尖沙咀). Why have I only discovered these places now?

I went to the harbour front with JL last night hoping to find a good spot to take these outfit photos. Since it's a tourist area, everyone was taking photos anyways so it wouldn't be too awkward :) I'm still tempted to stand right in the middle of an intersection at Causeway Bay (which is one of the busiest places in HK) one day to take an outfit photo. But not sure if JL would be up to that cause he always feel so awkward taking outfit photos for me.

On another note, I had to purchase these sandals in order to save my feet from the agony of walking in heels for the entire day. Not only were they sore but my feet had nasty blisters all over them. Luckily in Hong Kong you can always find a place that sells flats for dirt cheap. I really have to learn to wear comfortable shoes when I'm in Hong Kong because walking is honestly the most common mode of transportation. Before I go, I'll spam you with some photos from the habour in Tsim Sha Tsui (尖沙咀). It's so beautiful, isn't it?
